New Book!

Frozen Drinks an A to Z Companion to All Your Frozen Favorites

I got this book from Amazon.com because I realized that I had an amazing blender but limited frozen drink knowledge. There are 825 recipes in here. The author of this book has over 30 years of bar tending experience, and has even tended bar at Disney World.

It arrived today, and I put it to use right away. The recipes in this book use a lot of common mixers and alcohol. I have another book with blended drink recipes, but that one has a lot of strange and difficult to find ingredients. It's just not worth the effort. With this book I could get blending right away with stuff I already had around the house.

The best thing about having a Vitamix blender is that I can use whole fruit instead of fruit juice in these recipes. I often have whole limes, lemons, and oranges in the house. The whole fruit is more versatile than juice. If I buy a container of orange juice for mixed drinks, most of it goes to waste. However, if I have oranges, they keep for awhile and won't go to waste. Besides, that "real" lemon and lime juice you buy at the store in the bottle is just crappy. Fresh juice is much better.

If you have a powerful blender (like a Vitamix), don't be afraid to substitute whole fruit (peeled, if it's citrus) in a blended drink recipe. FYI, from experience an average orange yields about 4 ounces of juice and a lime yields approximately 2 ounces. I haven't blended a lemon yet, but I'm guessing that's between 2 and 3 ounces.
